  • Richard Hallin graduated from Occidental College in 1962 with a degree in Philosophy where he was a member of the fraternity Phi Beta Kappa. He went on to receive his Master’s in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from Oxford University where he was a Rhodes scholar. He then obtained his PhD in Public Law and Government from Columbia University in New York.
  • Hallin was inducted into the Eckerd Athletics Hall of Fame in the Class of 2009 after he began his career at Eckerd in 1975 as Provost and Dean of the Faculty.
  • Hallin was promoted to the role of Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid by then-President, Peter Armacost, where he worked until his retirement in 2004.
  • During his 26 years as Dean, the college’s enrollment doubled from 800 to over 1600.
  • One of the most enjoyable parts of the admission work for Hallin was working alongside the Eckerd athletics' head coaches to help build solid team rosters with diverse and winning programs. At one point, enrollment was composed of 15 percent from countries other than the United States.
  • The international enrollment worked to the benefit of many of Eckerd athletics programs. Towards the end of his tenure as Dean, Hallin worked with the coaches, college administration and Board of Trustees to begin the awarding of athletic scholarships.
  • Hallin has been an avid fan of Triton teams for decades, while mentoring student-athletes as part of the ASPEC African-American Student Support Program.
