Randy Kwist was a third baseman for the Tritons from 1976-79 and a three-year member of the men's soccer program. During his time at Eckerd, he helped lead baseball to four consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, including finishing as the National Runner-Up in 1977.Â
He was tabbed a First Team ABCA All-American his senior year in 1979 after posting a .298 batting average with 53 hits, 16 doubles, two triples, six homeruns, and 46 RBIs. His doubles that season rank ninth in single-season records.Â
In 1978, Eckerd won the program's first Sunshine State Conference Championship. He posted 57 RBIs that year, ranking eighth in single-season records. In the spring, he was drafted in the 12th round of the MLB draft by the Yankees.Â
Over his four years on the diamond, he played in 173 games with 205 hits and 152 RBIs. He ranks in the top-10 in Eckerd career records in seven categories, including; fifth in RBIs (152), sixth in at-bats (643), seventh in total bases (313), ninth in doubles (39), 10th in hits (205), 10th in singles (141), and 10th in extra-base hits (64).Â
He spent one season in the minor leagues playing in Low A in 1979.Â
