Biography:
In ancient times, the original Triton was the first "merman"—the son of Greek gods Poseidon and Amphitrite. He used a conch shell as a trumpet to call the waves and lived a super-chill life with his parents in a golden palace under the sea. Countless generations later, his 100x-great-grandson was on a quest of self-discovery when he followed a sailboat from Boca Ciega Bay into the docks at Eckerd College. Nearly a year later, after a moonlit college tryst, Triton Harley XCV was born on the shore at South Beach, and was greeted by a group of Kappa Kreatures, who made him feel right at home. He's been hanging around campus ever since—bringing life to every party, rooting for the home teams, and calling the waves ashore for kicks.
Introduced in January of 2026, Triton Harley XCV was built and designed by the student body across multiple departments and groups.
Built by the student body:
It began with a brainstorming session to hear more about the history of our mascot, and to talk through some concepts, which involved all the key groups on campus such as:
- ECOS
- SAAC
- President's Leadership Council
- Athletics staff
- Admissions
- Advancement
- Student Success
- Marketing & Communications
- Faculty
We followed up to the brainstorming session with a survey. After that, we formed a student-led steering committee to design the mascot based on the feedback from the session and survey. They took about three months to form the design and the final design was approved by the committee, ECOS, and SAAC.
