CHARLESTON, SC - The Eckerd women's sailing team completed at the SAISA Women's Team and Fleet Race Championships over the weekend, placing fifth in both events.
On Saturday, Eckerd finished fifth in the team race championships.
Eden Nykamp, Tia Soultanakis, and
Lily Schwartz were the team's skippers, with
Elissa Martinez,
Amelia Johnson,
Tess Levanway, and
Sophie Leduc as crew.
Charleston won the SAISA Women's Team Race Championships with a 10-1 record.
On Sunday, a strong performance by the A Division led Eckerd to a fifth-place finish with 75 points.
Nykamp skippered the A Division with Martinez (1, 3-8) and Levanway (2) as crew, finishing second just two points off the leader. They placed in the top four in seven of the eight races, with a victory in race six and three runner-up finishes in races three, five, and seven.
Schwartz and Johnson led the B Division, finishing with 51 points in fifth place. They finished second in race two.
Host, Charleston, won the SAISA Women's Fleet Race Championships with 31 points.
Eckerd returns to the water next weekend to close out the regular season at the Sailpak Oriental in Raleigh, NC.
