ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd beach volleyball team closed the third annual Battle on the Bay with its first win of the season, sweeping Webber International (Fla.) after falling to Arizona State, 5-0, earlier in the day.
The Tritons hung with the Division I Sun Devils in several matches including the No. 1 draw where
Stephanie Bogda and
Rebekah Machovec narrowly lost both sets 21-18 and 24-22.
Fernanda Reis and Margot Balliet took the first set at the No. 3 draw before dropping the next two.
Eckerd (1-11) then capped the event by sweeping Webber International, 5-0.
Payton Meader and
Ivey Andrews were dominant at the No. 5 draw, winning their sets by scores of 21-10 and 21-4.
The duos of
Arielle Erillo and
Abbie O'Ferrell, Sydney Case and Margot Balliet, and
Fernanda Reis and
Sam Crankshaw won in straight sets.
The Tritons return to competition on Marco 20 with a dual match at Florida Gulf Coast.
