ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd beach volleyball team returned home to the Northshore Courts for a tri-match Tuesday afternoon. Eckerd dropped the opener, 4-1, to Florida Southern and nearly bounced back for a win in the finale but fell, 3-2, in a tight contest with Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.).
Sam Crankshaw and
Fernanda Reis picked up a win for the Tritons in the No. 3 draw against FSC cruising in the first set, 21-12, and taking the second, 21-17.
Stephanie Bogda and
Rebekah Machovec dropped the opening set to Makena Wilson and Alex Montoya, 21-17, but rallied to take the second 21-14 before falling 15-11 in a tight third set. Florida Southern (10-8) took the No. 2, 4, and 5 slots in straight sets.
Eckerd (1-15) earned an early point against Lincoln Memorial in the No. 5 slot as
Payton Meader and
Ivey Andrews breezed past Abby Higgins and Marissa Coutinho, 21-17 and 21-9. Bogda and Machovec picked up the Tritons' second point taking a straight sets win (21-14, 21-11) in the No. 1 draw.
Eckerd battled in the No. 3 and 4 slots as both the pairs of Reis and Cranshaw in the No. 3 and Kira Hahn-Ventrell and Margot Balliet in the No. 4 cam back from first-set losses to take the second sets as both tandems won by scores of 21-15. However, Lincoln Memorial (1-3) took the third set 15-11 in both draws and the Railsplitters took the No. 2 slot in straight sets for the win.
