ESTERO, Fla. - After a 10-day layoff, the Eckerd beach volleyball team returned to action on Wednesday with a pair of matches at NCAA Division I Florida Gulf Coast. Eckerd fell in the first, 4-1, and was swept in second, 5-0.
Fernanda Reis and
Sam Crankshaw scored Eckerd's lone win on the day, defeating Giovanna Borgiotti and Candace Lacour in the No. 4 draw of the opening match 21-17, 21-17.
The Eagles (4-4) won the other four draws in straight sets, and proceeded to do the same in all five draws of the second match.
In the finale,
Stephanie Bogda and
Rebekah Machovec extended the first set into extra points at the No. 1 draw before losing 22-20.
Eckerd (1-13) is back on the courts next week hosting Florida Southern and Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) at North Shore Courts beginning at 2:30 PM.
