DELAND, Fla. - Due to injuries, the Eckerd beach volleyball team again began both matches with a deficit today at the Stetson Spring Fling, ending the tournament with losses to Saint Leo and No. 17 Stetson.
Fielding pairs at only three draws in both matches, Eckerd (0-4) trailed 2-0 before the first serve took place.  The Tritons picked up a win at the No. 1 position against Saint Leo as
Paula Hoffmann and
Stephanie Bogda defeated Beka Wachob and Brooke Turner by scores of 21-15 and 21-19.
It was the only win for EC in the match, however, as Saint Leo (1-3) picked up a 4-1 victory with wins at the No. 2 and 3 draws. Â
Rebekah Machovec and
Ivey Andrews won their first set over Nina Vattovaz and Amber Lake in the No. 2 position, 21-17, but dropped the next two, 21-15 and 15-10.
Payton Meader and
Asya Harris hung close at the No. 3 draw before taking 21-16 losses in each set.
The task was no easier against the 17th-ranked Hatters as Stetson (3-1) swept all three matches for a 5-0 victory.
The team returns to action next weekend at the Tampa Invitational.
