Box Score 2 ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Chelsea Armstrong drove in four runs in the back end of a doubleheader, lifting Eckerd to a 5-2 win over Rollins to take the series from the Tars, two games to one.
After Eckerd's walkoff win last night, Rollins won Saturday's first game, 13-2, before the Tritons (13-19, 2-7 SSC) grabbed the rubber game of the series.
Armstrong's three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning proved to be the difference in the finale, giving Eckerd a 5-1 lead. Â Her shot came after
Crystal Garcia and
Rachael Luckett opened the inning with back-to-back singles, setting the table for Armstrong's first home run of the year.
Armstrong also brought in the Tritons' first run of the game on a perfectly-executed squeeze bunt in the bottom of the third, bringing in
Kaleigh Floyd from third.
Nikole Van Gennep added a sacrifice fly in the inning as EC took a 2-0 lead.
Van Gennep, meanwhile, held the Tars' bats at bay for most of the game. Â Rollins got on the board in the fourth after a dropped pop-up with two outs allowed Gracie Street to score from third.
The Tars scored again in the sixth with two outs and threatened in the seventh after a pair of walks brought the tying run to the plate, but Van Gennep (8-13) stranded them both.
Eckerd had 11 hits in the win, getting three each from Garcia and Luckett while
Dana Paul went 2-for-3.
In the opening game, Rollins (23-12, 5-4 SSC) hit three home runs and a bases-clearing double on the way to a 13-2 win.
After a Street solo home run in the fourth, the Tars blew the game open with a five-run fifth then scored seven more runs over the final two innings.
Kayla Saylor brought in EC's first run with a pinch-hit single in the fifth and
Kaylin Kramer blasted a solo home run in the sixth.
Grace Willeck (2-4) was tagged with the loss, allowing nine runs in 5-1/3 innings.
