Tritons Take Two From Stevenson in Home Opener

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Eckerd took two contests today from Stevenson University, winning both matches 4-1 in the team's home opener.

In each match, Eckerd took straight-set wins in the No. 1, 2, and 4 spots.

The pair of Kaitlyn Sibson and Madison Whiting took both matches against Kristin Brooks and Samantha Perillo in the No. 1 spot. The tandem breezed in the first match by scores of 21-19 and 21-17 before claiming the sweep in the second match 22-20 and 21-16.

The No. 2 team of Rachel Cornatzer and Stephanie Bogda battled in the first match as each set went into extra points before the duo emerged victorious by scores of 22-20 and 25-23. In the second match, the pair cruised to a 21-15 win in the first set then outdueled Stevenson for the win in a close contest, 22-20.
 
In their first match, Savanna Cary and Abigail O'Ferrell cruised to a 21-8 and 21-15 win in the No. 4 slot. The duo then claimed their sweep, winning the second match by scores of 21-15 and 22-20.

The Tritons faced a tougher task in the No. 3 and 5 spots as both contests went to three sets.

Arielle Erillo and Mackenzie Redner jumped ahead early and cruised past Stevenson's Grace Coleman and Trang Christensen in the first set, 21-12. The pair fell in the second set, 21-17, but proved victorious as they rallied to take the third set, 15-9. The second match had almost identical results. The team took the first set, 22-20, before falling in the second set, 21-19. Erillo and Redner battled back to take the third set, 15-12.

Katie Arnette and Keri McMahon battled in the No. 5 spot but fell just short. The pair fell behind early, dropping the first set in both matches before climbing back in the second to force a decisive third set.

The Tritons have a quick turnaround as they travel to take on Florida Gulf Coast University tomorrow for two matches. The first match is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
