SAINT LEO, Fla. -- The Eckerd Tritons beach volleyball team went 2-1 on the first day of the SSC Tournament to advance to Saturday's action, picking up victories over Florida Southern and Barry.
Match One (W 3-2 vs. Florida Southern)
In the first match of the tournament, the Tritons outlasted the Mocs after the contest was decided by the final match to finish. The two teams split the first two to conclude, with
Addie White and
Jessi Meghreblian earning Eckerd's first win at No. 5 with a 21-14, 21-15 final score. Florida Southern took the next match to finish, but
Brooke Hand and
Maddie Prois extended it with a close 21-18, 22-20 triumph at No. 2.
Emma Samuelson and
Marti Boser sealed the team win with a three-set thriller at No. 4, bouncing back from a first-set loss to win 15-21, 21-17, 15-11.
Match Two (L 3-0 vs. Tampa)
Eckerd fell into the consolation side of the bracket with a 3-0 loss vs. top-seeded Tampa.
Madison Hardbarger and
Anna Jupin won a set at No. 1, but the Spartans earned the match victory with wins at No. 3, 4, and 5.
Match Three (W 3-0 vs. Barry)
In an elimination match vs. the Buccaneers, the Tritons earned their first win at No. 5 as Meghreblian and White picked up a 21-10, 21-10 decision. Hardbarger and Jupin were next to follow with a 21-12, 21-9 victory, while Hand and Prois clinched the team win with a 24-22, 21-6 score at No. 2.
Eckerd will be one of four teams standing tomorrow and will play in another elimination match at 11:30 a.m.Â
