MELBOURNE, Fla.
– Florida Tech extended its win streak to 11 straight games, handing the Eckerd College softball program a pair of closely-contested losses in a Saturday afternoon doubleheader, 4-0 and 4-3.

The Panthers (20-12, 7-2 SSC) also claimed Friday afternoon's series opener before riding the coattails of a pair of strong pitching performances from ace Amanda Smith again today.

Smith hurled a complete-game two-hit shutout in the opener against the Tritons (14-17, 2-7 SSC) before picking up her 13th win in the circle in game two with a five-strikeout effort for the decision.

Florida Tech completed the three-game series sweep after Eckerd had hopes of claiming back-to-back Sunshine State Conference series stemming from last weekend's trip at Nova Southeastern University.

Freshmen Kara Oberer and Kaycie Duncan recorded singles in the first and seventh innings off Smith.

The Panthers scored the first run in the bottom of the fourth inning and added three more in their half of the fifth frame.

Amanda Bueno went 2-for-3 with an RBI as Florida Tech managed seven hits in the opener.

EC's Whitney Bernier went deep into her appearance in the circle after recording two outs in yesterday's shortened start. She scattered seven hits and three of the runs allowed turned out to be earned.

Senior Logan Rohrbach quieted the Florida Tech bats with a scoreless sixth inning of work and provided the same kind of stability with a lockdown effort in the finale.

In relief of junior Kaitlyn Dougherty, Rohrbach tossed 3 2/3 more scoreless innings in a relief role, yielding three hits and a walk.

The Tritons backed up Dougherty with two runs of support in the top of the second inning as freshman Kirby Parnell drove in two with a two-out single off Smith.

But Florida Tech roared back and plated the tying runs in the third on a throwing error before Kara Dickinson ripped a go-ahead triple and Nicole Shinsky completed the four-run inning with another RBI base knock.

Dougherty was tagged for all four runs and FIT's Lindsey Nolan allowed one run but nailed the door for the save, her first of the spring.

Junior Chelsea Jeffares and Oberer each roped doubles off Nolan in the seventh to bring the Tritons within one, but an infield pop-up ended the game with the tying run on base.

The Tritons continue their extended path on the road this week against Webber International University, visiting Babson Park for a Wednesday afternoon doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
