FROSTPROOF, Fla.
Kaitlyn Dougherty and Alex Sasso each had strong outings in the pitcher's circle, but the Eckerd College softball program's bats stalled in a pair of nighttime losses at Webber International University on Wednesday, 3-0 and 2-0.

The Tritons (4-9, 0-0 SSC) have been outscored 26-1 spanning the last five games despite having situations to drive runners in.

“We left eight runners on in the first game tonight and left the bases loaded with one out in the seventh in the second game,” voiced EC Head Coach Josh Beauregard. “It's not like we didn't have our opportunities. Our pitchers did a great job today and didn't give up a lot of earned runs. We should just be better than that.”

EC had just one less hit than the Warriors in the opener as Dougherty scattered seven hits in six frames. The Tritons loaded the bases up in the third inning and left one runner stranded in the next three consecutive innings.

Webber International did most of its damage in the top half of the sixth as an RBI single and a sacrifice flyout gave the Warriors some insurance after leading 1-0. WIU scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning.

Sasso enjoyed a 2-for-2 effort at the plate while freshman Sabrina Lolo doubled in three plate appearances.

Sasso was on tough end of the decision on the mound in game two and lasted four innings. She also helped her cause at the plate with a hit and freshman Brittany Mitchell pitched a pair of scoreless innings in relief.

Even though the Tritons managed just four hits, they were in prime position to earn the split with their final turn of at-bats. A leadoff walk drawn by Chelsea Jeffares followed by Sasso's single had EC in business.

Ashleigh Bynum dropped in one of her two base hits in game two to load them up as Sarah Agnew and Dougherty each advanced into scoring position. But Warriors' starter and current The Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week Kiana Levy escaped the jam with an infield popup and strikeout to end it.

The Tritons will be looking to bounce back at home this weekend against Warner University at the Turley Athletic Complex for a Saturday afternoon twinbill beginning at 1 p.m.
