Tritons Closes School Year with End of the Year Banquet

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - As the school year comes to the end, the Eckerd College Athletic Department hosted their annual End of the Year Banquet, which celebrated the Triton athletic teams.  The night included honors for  Most Valuable Players, Triton Award Winners, a couple of record breakers, scholar athletes, and the James R. Harley Award.

The first award of the night that was handed out was the ASPEC Outstanding Athlete Award, which was handed to Lewis Lampley of the men's basketball team. 

The next two awards of the night were to recognize the two Eckerd College athletes that broke school records.  The first was handed out to volleyball stand-out Lydee Benoit.  Last season, Benoit broke the all-time kills record.  This year, she added on to her total, giving her 1,747 total kills, which is over 500 more kills than any other person in program history.  The next record breaker was four-year Eckerd College softball player Mackenzie Dawson.  This season, Dawson broke the all time career wins record, a record that was held for 13 years.  She currently holds the record with 30 wins.

Following the record breaking awards were the team awards.  The winners are as follows:

Women's Soccer:
-Most Valuable Players - Rhianna Lebedz and Nicole Davis

Men's and Women's Golf:
-Most Valuable Players - Nicole Lasasso and Callum Georgallides
-Triton Award Winners - Leah Colombo and Paul Henderson

Men's Soccer:
-Most Valuable Player - Colin Kuhn
-Triton Award Winner - Joe Copland

Men's and Women's Tennis:
-Most Valuable Players - Emmy Laing and Ben Maxwell
-Triton Award Winners - Alie Avery and Jon Bonner

Women's Basketball:
-Most Valuable Player - Ashley Lutz
-Triton Award Winner - Stephanie Grace

Softball:
-Most Valuable Player - Alex Sasso
-Triton Award Winner - Mackenzie Dawson

Baseball:
-Most Valuable Player - Minner Labrador
-Triton Award Winner - Matt Abraham

Men's Basketball:
-Most Valuable Player - Zaron Cann
-Triton Award Winner - Nick Agress

Volleyball:
-Most Valuable Player - Lydee Benoit
-Tritons Award Winner - Megan Golovkin

The next set of awards were the Senior Scholar Athletes.  This award was given to the male and female athlete that sported the highest GPA.  The male winner was men's soccer player Joe Copland, who had a 3.8 grade point average, while Nicole Lasasso from the women's golf team sported a 3.7 gpa.

As the night came to an end, the final award of the night had to be distributed, which was the James R. Harley Award.  This is the highest award any Eckerd College athlete can receive.  This is given to one male and one female athlete that demonstrated leadership and excellence in the classroom, on the field of competition, and in their community.  The big winners of the night were Joe Copland and Lydee Benoit.
