Ataseven, Egan highlight annual ECSPYs event

ST. PETERSBURG – Eckerd College Athletics hosted the annual ECSPYs on Sunday inside Miller Auditorium. Batu Ataseven (men's tennis) and Emma Egan (women's basketball) highlighted the evening's award winners as the 2025-26 recipients of the James R. Harley Award.

The James R. Harley Award is annually presented to the top senior male and female student-athlete that has demonstrated leadership and excellence in the classroom, on the field of competition, and in their community.

Ataseven, from Istanbul, Turkey, is a four-year member of the men's tennis program. He leaves Eckerd holding both the career singles and doubles record for the Tritons. A two-time All-SSC selection, Ataseven also appeared in the ITA national rankings in doubles in 2026. Academically, he is a double major in Economics and Management, is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma, and serves a Business Finance tutor and Summer Conference Aide. Additionally, he received the D2ADA Academic Achievement Award and the SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll three times.

Egan, from Mount Washington, Ky., completed her second season with the women's basketball program. She was an SSC Defensive Player of the Week, First Team All-Conference, and a WBCA All-American this season. She helped lead the team to an SSC outright regular season title and second Sweet 16 in program history. Outside of basketball, Egan is involved in various SAAC community initiatives, including integrity sports triathlon volunteer, elementary reading tour, food drive, and the Edible Peach Patch Project.

Two years ago, Eckerd proudly established a chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma. The organization recognizes the exceptional qualities of student-athletes—superior academic achievement, participation in intercollegiate athletics, outstanding leadership, and a strong commitment to serving our college community. A total of 44 Eckerd student-athletes were recognized for their induction.
