MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The Eckerd Tritons (14-10, 0-6) were swept in SSC doubleheader action by the Barry Buccaneers (17-7, 4-2 SSC) thanks to an explosive Buccaneer offense in game one and the pitching of T.J. Mullins in game two on Saturday afternoon at Barry's Feinbloom Field. Barry defeated Eckerd 21-2 in game one before beating the Tritons, 3-0, in game two.
In game one, the Bucs scored early and often, taking a 10-0 lead in the first inning, scoring three of those 10 runs on a three-run homerun to center by Yas Gutierrez. Barry would go on to eventually take a 17-0 lead until the Tritons scored a run in the top of the sixth when
Chris Clinton scored on a passed ball.
Barry led 21-1 going into the ninth until
Joe Dabah plated
Dan Branca with a run-scoring infield single.
Johnny Lancaster (2-2) took the loss for the Tritons while Corey Witkowski (1-0) picked up the win for Barry.
In game two, Barry took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a leadoff homer by Nick Shaw. Even though Barry would score twice more, one run would be all the run support needed by Buccaneer starter T.J. Mullins (3-1), who would go the distance, throwing a complete game, one-hit shutout while striking out seven Tritons.
Jake Wilder (2-3) was saddled with the loss after throwing three innings while allowing two runs on four hits.
Eckerd will return to action on Tuesday, March 22 as it hosts Clearwater Christian at 7pm.
