LAKE WALES, Fla. - Sophomore RHP
Joey Cuda threw seven complete innings while allowing one run on eight scattered hits as the Eckerd Tritons (11-6), defeated the Warner Royals (11-14), 8-2, on Saturday afternoon at Royals Field. Cuda compiled 10 punch-outs, recording double figure strikeouts for the second time this season.
After Warner took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, Eckerd responded with eight unanswered runs, jumping out to a 3-1 lead after a two-run single by
Matt Abraham in the third. The Tritons then put the game well out of reach with a bases-clearing double by
David Regidor in the top of the fifth.
That would be all the run support needed by Cuda, who would go on to improve his record to 4-0 while Warner's Josh Castanza (3-2) took the loss.
Eckerd will return to the diamond on Sunday as it hosts Saint Ambrose in doubleheader action beginning at 1pm at the Turley Athletic Complex.
