ORLANDO, Fla. – Four members of the Eckerd baseball team were recognized on the Sunshine State Conference's All-SSC teams, the league announced Thursday afternoon.
Corey Hodierne,
Christian Cabina, and
Kam Gelwick earned First Team nods, while
Joey Bazydlo landed on Second Team. Hodierne also was named to the All-Defensive Team.
Hodierne, a First Team selection in the outfield, led the Tritons in batting average at .394, finishing with 10 doubles and 48 runs batted in. He swiped 36 steals on 39 attempts, and struck out just 15 times in 188 at-bats. He ranked in the top 10 in nine different statistical categories in the SSC, including No. 1 in steals, No. 3 in batting average, and No. 4 in runs scored. Hodierne also landed on the conference's All-Defensive Team, posting a fielding percentage of .993 on 136 chances.
Cabina, a First Team selection at first base, was second on the Tritons with a .378 batting average, and led the SSC in home runs with 12. He ranked in the top 10 in the conference in seven statistical categories, including second in slugging percentage and fifth in RBI.
Gelwick, a First Team selection in the outfield, led the Tritons and the SSC in doubles with 24, which is an Eckerd program record for most in a single season. He ended in the top 10 in nine different hitting categories in the SSC, and finished second on the team with nine home runs. His 52 RBI are tied with Cabina for most on the Tritons.
Bazydlo, a Second Team selection at second base, ended the season with a .345 batting average and 39 RBI. He ended the season with 13 doubles, two home runs, and a triple.
