ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Teshymia Tillman had a game-high 13 points, and No. 13 Clayton State used high-pressure defense to take a 58-40 win over Eckerd College on Saturday at the EC Thanksgiving Classic.

Drameka Griggs had 11 points to help the Lakers (8-0) win their eighth straight. Clayton State forced 28 turnovers, including 20 in the first half.

Ashley Lutz and Kati Rausberg each had 11 points for Eckerd (3-1), which shot 40 percent overall.

“Clayton State just has a unique style of play with their pressure,” said Eckerd head coach Paul Honsinger. “But I was really happy with how we competed and how we defended.”

The Lakers, who defeated Florida Southern on Friday, outscored Eckerd 24-6 during a 12-minute stretch of the first half.

The Tritons scored the final five points of the half to close the deficit to 30-18 at halftime. But the hosts could never get the margin under double figures in the second half.

Eckerd held Clayton State to its lowest point tally of the season. The Lakers entered the game averaging nearly 87 points per contest.

“The game plan was to shorten the game and minimize their possessions, and we did that,” Honsinger said. “We did everything we could, but they have a very good team.”

Eckerd will travel to Ave Maria for a 7 p.m. contest on Tuesday.
