DELAND, Fla. -- The Eckerd Tritons beach volleyball team split the first day of the Stetson Spring Fling on Friday, defeating the Mercer Bears by a score of 4-1 before falling to the Jacksonville Dolphins by the same score.
Against Mercer, the Tritons clinched the match early with wins in the first three matches that finished.
Brooke Hand and
Anna Jupin won in straight sets at the No. 1 position, taking down their opponents by a score of 21-15, 21-14.
Teagan VanderMey and
Ella Kloepper were victorious at No. 3, also winning in straight sets with a score of 21-15, 21-14, while
Marti Boser and
Emma Samuelson earned a win at No. 5 with a 21-17, 21-14 decision.
Jessi Meghreblian and
Natalie Harvey collected the fourth point for the team with a three-set (18-21, 21-19, 15-10) triumph at No. 5.
In match two vs. Jacksonville, Boser and Samuelson notched the lone win for the Tritons at No. 5, defeating their counterpart in three sets by a final of 21-16, 16-21, 15-9.
Eckerd will resume action tomorrow against Charleston and No. 14 Stetson.
