ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Seven student-athletes -Lucas Berglund, Jonathan Falbe-Hansen, Rick Koch, Martyna Kowalska, Akari Miura, Mariana Olivares-Cely, and Lily Schwartz - as well as four student employees - Tae Chambers, Jenna Weisman, Ansley Bossart, and Ava Shepard-Cano - have been selected into the College's Chapter of The Phi Beta Kappa Society.
Phi Beta Kappa, founded in 1776, is this nation's oldest and best-known society for recognition of academic excellence and scholarly achievement. Eckerd is among only 10 percent of American colleges and universities with a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, whose members include 17 U.S. Presidents, 42 Supreme Court Justices, and more than 150 Nobel Laureates.
Lucas Berglun is from Uppsala, Sweden, and is a four-year member of the men's soccer team. He has appeared in 55 games over his career, logging over 4,000 minutes with a goal and an assist. He is a four-time recipient of the SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll, a three-time CSC academic all-district honoree, and received the D2ADA Academic Achievement Award. He holds a 3.97 grade-point average in Psychology.
Jonathan Falbe-Hansen, from Silkeborg, Denmark, is a four-year member of the men's soccer team, appearing in 37 games over his career with five goals and an assist. He is a four-time recipient of the SSC SSC Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll, has received the D2ADA Academic Achievement award, and was named to the CSC Academic All-District Team. He boasts a 3.78 GPA in economics.
Rick Koch is a four-year member of the baseball team from Hamburg, Germany. He holds a 4.0 GPA in Marketing, International Business, and Communication. He appeared in 23 contests with a 2-1 record with one save. He is a three-time recipient of the SSC SSC Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll, has received the D2ADA Academic Achievement award twice, and was named to the CSC Academic All-District Team.
Martyna Kowalska is a two-year member of the women's basketball team and hails from Leszno, Poland. She holds a 3.8 GPA in Marine Science. She has appeared in 56 games over her career, posting 427 points and 268 rebounds. Last year, she was tabbed to the SSC All-Tournament team, SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll, D2ADA Academic Achievement Award, and CSC Academic All-District team.
Akari Miura is a three-year member of the women's golf team and is from Tokyo, Japan. She holds a 4.0 grade point average in Biochemistry. She has appeared in 12 tournaments during her career, posting a career-low 77. She is a two-time recipient of the SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll and received the D2ADA Academic Achievement Award,
Mariana Olivares-Cely is a four-year member of the beach volleyball team, holding a 3.83 grade point average in biology. She has appeared in 45 contests with 11 wins. She is a two-time recipient of the D2ADA Academic Achievement Award and received the CSC Academic All-Districts award.
Lily Schwartz, from Toledo, Ohio, is a four year member of the sailing team. She has appeared in 37 events over her career, including the SAISA Championships each year and the ICSA Women's Team Nationals in 2023. She maintains a 3.91 grade point average.

Additionally, four student work scholars have received the honor as well. Athletic Communications Student Assistants Tae Chambers (Biology) and Jenna Weisman (Marine Science) received the honor as well as Ansley Bossart (Animal Studies) and Ava Shepard-Cano (Animal Studies) from Game Management.
The group is part of a record 45 students selected for this year's induction.
The College's Zeta Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa was founded in 2004.
