GULF SHORES, Ala. - The Eckerd beach volleyball team closed out its season with a split on the final day of play at the AVCA Small College Championships. The Tritons swept Wayne State College (Neb.) 3-0 in the morning before falling to Vanguard University (Calif.) 3-1 in the afternoon.
Eckerd (8-24) kicked off the day with a decisive 3-0 victory over Wayne State College (14-6).
Brooke Hand and Anna Jupin controlled their match from start to finish, securing a straight-set win with scores of 21-15 and 21-14.Â
Addie White and Madison Hardbarger defeated Wildcat's Molly Romano and Brooklyn Kusler, cruising to a swift victory, 21-11 and 21-9.
Jessi Meghreblian and Marti Lu Boser battled through a tightly contested first set, edging out a 23-21 win before carrying that momentum into the second to close out the match 21-15.Â
The Tritons advanced to the second round of the silver bracket to face Vanguard (12-16), but came up short in a 3-1 defeat.
White and Hardbarger notched the Tritons' sole victory of the match, fighting through a tough contest. After a 21-16 win in the first set, they held off a late push from Katie Alexander and Anne Mayfield to secure a 22-20 victory in the second.
Emma Samuelson and Mariana OlivaresCely came up just short in their match, dropping the first set 21-16. They fought hard in the second, nearly forcing a third set before falling 21-19.Â
Teagan VanderMey and Ella Kloepper showed similar resilience, battling back in both sets. Despite their best efforts, they ultimately lost 21-16 and 21-18.
Jessi Meghreblian and Marti Lu Boser finished their match in a 21-12, 21-17 defeat, almost making a comeback in the No.5 flight.Â
