ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd beach volleyball team dropped its match against Missouri State University 3-2 to open up the Eckerd College Battle on the Bay on Friday at the Baker Beach Complex.
Eckerd (6-12) was defeated 3-2 by Missouri State (11-2).
Brooke Hand and Anna Jupin fought hard to come back after losing their first set 18-21, eventually taking the second set 23-21. The No. 1 pairing secured the victory in the third set, 15-12.
Addie White and Madison Hardbarger defeated MacKenzie Steele and Amanda Cleary in the first set of the No. 2 flight 21-18, but then fell in the second set 21-15. They edged out their opponents in the third set 16-14 to secure a second victory for the Tritons.
The Tritons were defeated in straight sets for the other three matches.
Eckerd returns to the Baker Beach Volleyball Complex on Saturday, facing the University of Tampa and Palm Beach Atlantic for the second day of the Eckerd College Battle on the Bay.
