ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd beach volleyball team wrapped up the Triton Invite on Saturday afternoon with two hard-fought losses. In a thrilling opening match, the Tritons battled Saint Leo but ultimately fell 3-2. EC closed out the weekend with another intense showdown against Florida Southern, where they were narrowly defeated 3-2.
Eckerd (2-10) started the day by falling to conference opponent Saint Leo (6-6).Â
The Tritons took home their two wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 flights. Addie White and Madison Hardbarger came out and won their first set 21-15 and then dropped the second set 21-16. The duo dug deep to clinch the match in the third set, defeating Lions' Brenna Reinhard and Tajma Muharemovic.
Teagan VanderMey and Ella Kloepper delivered another victory for the Tritons, overcoming their opponents in straight sets, 21-19 and 22-20.Â
In the decisive fifth set, Jocelyn Escoffery and Maddie Prois battled to three sets but fell 20-22, 21-10, 18-16. The Lions took the other two draws in straight sets.
The final match of the Triton Invite ended in a 3-2 win for Florida Southern (13-5) over Eckerd.
Brooke Hand and Anna Jupin came out sharp in their second match of the day, handing the Moccasins a loss in the No. 1 pairing. The match ended in straight sets, with Hand and Jupin defeating Emma Winford and Ashli Mckenny 21-18, 21-18.Â
White and Hardbarger collected their second win of the day, fighting hard to defeat their opponents in a tight match, 21-19 and 23-21.
Similar to the opener Escoffery and Prois fell in three sets, 21-16, 16-21, 15-7, as the Mocs took the other two draws in two sets.
The Tritons return to the Baker Beach Volleyball Complex on March 20th for a quad match, facing off against New College of Florida at 8:30 AM, Ave Maria at 12:30 PM, and Barry University will kick off at 4:30 PM.
