DELAND, Fla. - The Eckerd beach volleyball team dropped a pair of contests on the final day of the Stetson Invitational, falling to the University of Nebraska and No. 20 Stetson University (Fla.) both by scores of 5-0 on Saturday.
Eckerd (0-4) dropped its first match of the day to the University of Nebraska (1-3), 5-0.
Maddie Prois and Jocelyn Escoffery went head-to-head in a fierce battle at the No. 5 slot, rallying from behind to claim a 21-15 victory in the second set and force a decisive third. However, the Huskers ultimately won the final set 15-11.
Marti Lu Boser and Emma Samuelson fought hard in the No. 4 slot, but were narrowly defeated 21-19 and 21-18. Nebraska took the rest of the positions in straight sets.
No. 20 Stetson University (4-0) took each flight in straight sets.
Brooke Hand and Addie White, playing in the No. 2 pairing, dropped their first set 21-14, but put up a strong fight in the second. Despite a valiant comeback effort, they ultimately fell short 22-20 in a tightly contested set. The Hatters swept the Tritons 5-0.
Eckerd returns to action next Friday in Tampa, facing the University of Tampa at 1:00 PM and Florida Gulf Coast University at 3:00 PM.
