ST. PETERSBURG – The Eckerd softball team will host their winter showcase on Saturday, January 3 as announced by head coach Michelle Frew.
All camps scheduled over last year and this past fall filled up well before the camp date deadlines. Camps this fall had attendees from 25 states from across the country, so please register early as space is limited as camps will max out at 45 participants.
Coach Frew returned to her alma mater last year and her first season was one of the best that the program ever experienced. The team finished with its best-ever conference record and had one of the biggest turnarounds in the nation in 2025. The Tritons also picked up seven wins against nationally-ranked opponents and improved to become the Sunshine State Conference highest powered offense in 2025. Eckerd led the league in runs/game, OPS, on base percentage, slugging percentage, and home runs. The pitching staff also boasted the league-leader in strikeouts this season which also was a first in program history.
In 2024, Coach Frew led the University of Charleston in the NCAA D2 World Series. UC concluded the season with a 51-8 record, and Coach Frew was honored by being named Atlantic Region Coaching Staff of the Year. Charleston finished ranked No. 7 in the national poll which was the highest ever ranking in program history. Over the past four seasons, Coach Frew's teams have won three conference championships, two NCAA regionals and last year's NCAA Super Regional. Her programs consistently compete for championships.
Coach Frew is happy to be back at Eckerd, which is one of the best locations in Florida as the campus boasts its own beach in St. Pete. The Showcase is designed for players who have an interest in adding to their competitive experience. Participants will be involved in various skill workouts facilitated by the Eckerd softball players and coaching staff and then will have the opportunity to showcase their skills during live games scheduled throughout the day. Players and their families will also take a guided tour of campus. Coach Frew prefers smaller, more intimate camps, and a waiting list will be generated when the event reaches capacity.
