WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The Eckerd Tritons softball team split a pair of games on Saturday with the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish to earn a series win on the weekend. Eckerd fell in game one by a score of 8-0 before taking the finale 4-3.
In game one, PBA struck for three runs in the opening inning, eventually adding two more in the third and a run in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead into the sixth. Eckerd mustered just three hits in the game, two of which came in the first two innings.
Hannah Taylor singled to open up the sixth, but three straight flyouts left her stranded. The Sailfish tallied two more in the bottom half to win game one by run rule.
The Tritons threatened right away in game two by loading the bases in their opening at-bat, but neither team capitalized with runners in scoring position early on as the game remained scoreless through three innings of action.
Palm Beach Atlantic was the first to produce a run in the fourth and took a 1-0 advantage into the fifth. Eckerd saw its offense come alive with a pair of tallies in each of the fifth and sixth innings, beginning with an RBI single from
Abby Lucas to tie the game before she came around to score on
Faith Wharton's double. One inning later,
Ella Coiner delivered a two-run single to bring in the team's final two runs of the game.
Starting pitcher
Brandilyn Reymer worked around a two-run home run and the go-ahead run at the plate in PBA's last at-bat to seal the 4-3 victory. Reymer struck out 10 to earn her 15th win of the season.
Eckerd will be back in action next Saturday for a doubleheader at Fort Valley State.
