TAMPA, Fla. - The Tritons beach volleyball team split their final tri-match of the year, falling to the University of Tampa 5-0 before defeating Florida Southern 4-1 in Tampa on Saturday afternoon.
Eckerd (6-16) dropped its first match of the day to Tampa (18-9), 5-0 as the Spartans took all five flights in straight sets.
The two's and fives each put up double-digits in each set, but fell in straight sets.
The Tritons bested Florida Southern (20-6) 4-1 to close the day. Anna Jupin and Madison Hardbarger defeated the Mocs' top pairing of Emma Winford and Ashli McKenny 21-19, 21-15 in straight sets. Elissa Johnson and Bekah Overly also made quick work of their opponents, taking the No. 3 flight 21-10, 21-16 in straight sets.
Eckerd's fourth and fifth flights were three-set battles, as Teagan VanderMey and Rachel Jackson rallied back from a 21-9 first set loss to take the match 23-21, 15-11. Brooke Hand and Jesse Meghreblian won the No. 4 slot 21-19, 16-21, 15-7.
The Tritons will compete in the AVCA Small College Championships in Tavares, Florida next Friday through Sunday.
