TAVARES, Fla. - The Tritons beach volleyball team fell twice to close the season at the AVCA Small College Championship Sunday afternoon. The Tritons fell to Florida Southern in the opening match of the Bronze pool 3-2, before falling to Wayne State College (Neb.) in the Bronze consolation game 3-0.
Eckerd (8-20) opened the day falling to Florida Southern (23-11) in a split decision 3-2.
Eckerd won the three's and four's flights, as Elissa Johnson and Bekah Overly took the No. 3 draw 21-17 in straight sets. Jessi Meghreblian and Brooke Hand took a 21-16 set one lead before falling behind 21-15 in set two. They won their match in set three 15-11.
Addie White and Melanie Silva also took the first set in the No. 2 flight, 21-17. They dropped set two 21-17, for the match to be decided in the third set. They fell 15-13 in set three for Florida Southern to clinch the match.
The Tritons fell to Wayne State College (10-6) 3-0 to close the AVCA Small College Championships.
Eckerd shook up its pairings for their final match. Jocelyn Escoffery and Mariana Olivares-Cely appeared in the No. 4 flight and Faith Smith and Melana Moore played the No. 5 flight.
