TAVARES, Fla. - The Tritons beach volleyball team dropped a pair of matches in the opener of the AVCA Small College Championships in Tavares, Florida on Friday. 

Eckerd (6-18) dropped its first match of the day to Colorado Mesa (15-10), 3-0. 

Colorado Mesa took the first match 3-0, taking the one's, three's, and five's flights in straight sets. 

The two's and four's flights went unfinished. Melanie Silva and Addie White battled to narrowly drop set one 24-22, and only trailed 18-13 when their match was discontinued. Brooke Hand and Jessi Meghreblian also narrowly fell in set one 21-18, and were trailing 19-12 when their match was discontinued. 

The Tritons fell to Palm Beach Atlantic (17-15) 3-1 to close the day. Elissa Johnson and Bekah Overly picked up the lone point for the Tritons in the match. They defeated the No. 3 pairing of Lola Ackman and Annika Huhtamaki 21-17, 21-15. In the No. 5 flight, Teagan VanderMey and Rachel Jackson took set one 21-19 before narrowly dropping set two 24-22. Their match went unfinished as PBA had already clinched the match. 

The Tritons had two pairs competing in the Pairs Challenge. Jocelyn Escoffery and Mariana Olivares-Cely went 1-1 on the day. They won their first match 21-15, 21-18. Melana Moore and Faith Smith went a perfect 2-0 on the day, taking both matches in three sets to win the A Pool. 

The Tritons remain at the AVCA Small College Championships, facing Emmanuel at 9:05 am, before awaiting their seeding for a challenge match.
