ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd beach volleyball teams dropped a pair of contests on the first day of the annual Battle on the Bay to Jacksonville, 5-0, and Missouri State, 4-1, at the Baker Beach Volleyball Complex.
Eckerd (0-8) dropped its morning contest with Jacksonville (4-8).
Jocelyn Escoffery and
Jessi Meghreblian nearly came away with a victory for the Tritons in the No. 5 slot. The duo dropped the opening set 21-11 but rallied to take the second 24-22 before falling in the third 15-10.
The Dolphins took the remaining draws in straight sets.
Missouri State (8-1) topped the Tritons, 4-1, in the second match of the day.
Madison Hardbarger and
Anna Jupin posted a victory in the top flight. After falling in the opener 19-21, the tandem bounced back to take the next two sets 21-16 and 15-13.
MSU took the remaining four positions in straight sets.
Eckerd returns for day two of the Battle on the Bay, hosting Palm Beach Atlantic at 10:00 AM and Saint Leo at 4:00 PM at the Baker Beach Complex.
