ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season against Salem University (WV) 4-2 at the Bullard Courts on Thursday afternoon.
The Tritons (1-4) beat the Tigers (3-5) after earning the doubles point and taking three singles matches, with one match going unfinished.
Eckerd started the day strong, taking the doubles point for the first time this season. Christian Kearns and Jon William Karlstad made quick work in the No. 3 slot with a 6-0 win. Batu Ataseven and Esteve Augusti defeated Pablo Noya and Tomas Acuna in a close match at the No. 1 draw. They took the match 7-5 to secure the doubles point.
Augusti almost had a clean sweep over Pablo Guilien, taking the No. 1 singles draw, 6-1, 6-0. Christian Kearns and Sam Walker rounded out the singles victories for the Tritons as Kearns defeated Paipa 6-3, 6-1, and Walker took his match 7-5, 6-3.
The Tritons host Findlay (Ohio) at the Bullard Courts on Friday at 3:00 PM.
