ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Eckerd Tritons men's tennis team won its sixth straight match on Wednesday, defeating the Union Garnet Chargers by a score of 5-2 in a neutral-site contest.
Eckerd earned the doubles points after winning two of the three opening matches.
Adrian Gheorghe and
Marshall Hulett were the first to finish at the No. 2 spot, defeating their counterpart by a score of 6-2. Union took the No. 3 match, but
Batu Ataseven and
Amirali Ghavam clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 decision at No. 1. The Tritons led 1-0 entering singles play.
The first four matches to finish in singles were all won by Eckerd, beginning with Ghavam's swift 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3.
Mario Kirkov defeated his opponent at No. 2 by a score of 6-2, 6-3, while Hulett earned the match-sealing point at No. 4 with a 6-3, 6-3 victory. Ataseven picked up a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 1 to give the Tritons their fifth point.Â
With the win, Eckerd improves to 8-4 on the season. The team will be back in action Friday to host Franklin Pierce.Â
