ST. PETERSBURG -- The Eckerd Tritons men's tennis team won its eighth straight match on Wednesday, earning a sweep over the visiting Ave Maria Gyrenes by a score of 7-0.
In doubles, all three matches went in favor of the Tritons, beginning with a 6-3 win at No. 1 by
Batu Ataseven and
Amirali Ghavam.
Marshall Hulett and
Adrian Gheorghe clinched the doubles point for the Tritons with a 6-3 victory at No. 2, while
Mario Kirkov and
Konrad Fischer secured a 6-3 decision at No. 3.
In singles, Ghavam notched the second point of the day for the Tritons with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at No. 2, followed by Ataseven's 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1. Kirkov sealed the match win for the team with his 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 victory at No. 2.Â
Elsewhere,
Oskar Ekjord picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6, while Hulett collected a three-set victory at the No. 4 spot.
Valdemar Spillemose Anderson rounded out the sweep with a 6-1, 7-5 victory at No. 5.
Eckerd now sits at 10-4 on the season. The team will hit the road to take on No. 37 Lynn on Friday.
