ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd beach volleyball team fell to Saint Leo 4-1 on day one of the Tritons' annual Battle on the Bay tournament at the North Shore Courts in downtown St. Petersburg on Friday afternoon. The Tritons'Â scheduled second match against Palm Beach Atlantic was postponed to Saturday morning at 8:00 AM due to weather conditions.
The Tritons were out to a hot start in the match, as the pairing of Kitana Lim and Agata Sklepik avenged their loss from Wednesday's matchup against the Lions. The duo edged out a win 21-18, 21-16 in the No. 2 draw.Â
Both the No. 1 and No. 3 draw were extremely close, going to three sets each. Joelle Coulter and Addie White bounced back after dropping set one 21-10 to take set two 21-19. Set three was tight, with Coulter and White ultimately falling 15-11.
The last court to finish was an electrifying match, as the pairing of Aliya Fredette-Huffm and Jeanette Henderson just barely squeaked by the Tritons' top duo of Dana Dull and Anna Jupin. Dull and Jupin picked up a second-set victory 21-19. Their match was decided by a mere two points, as they ultimately fell 15-13 in set three.Â
The Tritons (2-2) return to the North Shore Courts for day two of the Battle on the Bay tournament Saturday. Eckerd will face Palm Beach Atlantic at 8:00 AM, Tampa at 11:30 PM, and Missouri State University at 2:30 PM.Â
