WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Eckerd beach volleyball team split a tri-match with Palm Beach Atlantic and Stevenson (Md.) at the Rinker Athletic Campus on Sunday, as the Tritons picked up their first win of the season against Stevenson in the second match, 3-2, after falling in the opener to Palm Beach Atlantic, 5-0.
The Tritons fought in the opening match against PBA (9-3), with the No. 3 pairing of Anna Jungjohann and Nicole Perekhodko narrowly falling 21-17 and 21-19. Eckerd lost the remaining four matches in straight sets.
EC turned the tides in the second match against Stevenson (5-5), as the No. 1 duo of Joelle Coulter and Dana Dull claimed a victory over SU's Shannon Baily and Emily Pellini, 21-13 and 21-10. The Mustangs took the No. 2 slot, but Eckerd bounced back to take a 2-1 lead behind the performances of Jungjohann and Perekhodko, who won their match 21-15 and 21-19 in the No. 3 draw. Martina Melicherova and Mariana Olivares-Cely gave the Tritons their first win of the season when they secured the No. 4 draw, 21-10 and 22-20, against SU's Kayla Vaeth and Hannah Naja.
The Tritons (1-7) remain on the road for two matches against the State College of Florida on Friday at 4:30 and 6:30 PM.
