Dallman-Weiss, Lefebvre, and Mathews Selected for Eckerd Athletics Hall of Fame

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Eckerd Athletics is proud to announce Lara Dallman-Weiss, Joe Lefebvre, and Rhonda (Harris) Mathews as the three members chosen to the 2022 Athletics Hall of Fame class.

Dallman-Weiss was a skipper and crew on both the coed and women's sailing team in her time as a Triton, graduating in 2011. She earned skipper and crew of the year awards during her time, including being named both the coed and women's skipper of the year in 2011. 

Dallman-Weiss led the Tritons to the ICSA Nationals three consecutive years, competing in both the coed and women's nationals in 2009 and 2011. In 2010 she produced her best finish, placing third in the A Division as Eckerd finished sixth overall in the ICSA Women's Nationals. 

After Eckerd, Dallman-Weiss continued her sailing prowess, competing in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics for the United States in the women's 470 event. Dallman-Weiss and her skipper, Nicki Barnes, finished 12th overall, with their best finish - second place- coming in race eight.

Dallman-Weiss is currently campaigning for the 2024 Olympics in the coed 470 class.

Lefebvre was a starting centerfielder and pitcher of the 1977 baseball team, the Division II National Runner-up, garnering ABCA First Team All-American honors that season. He also led the team to an NCAA Tournament Appearance in 1976. 

Lefebvre played from 1976-77 and ranks in the top-10 in four categories in program history. He holds the program record for career triples with 17 while ranking second in ERA (2.15), third in slugging percentage (.670), and sixth in batting average (.375).  

Lefebvre also holds the program record for single-season triples with nine. Additionally, he ranks second in triples (8), third in runs scored (62), fourth in RBIs (60), fifth (30) and seventh (29) in extra-base hits, fifth in total bases (132), ninth in home runs (12).  

He was drafted by the New York Yankees in the third round of the 1977 free-agent draft. He made his MLB debut in 1980 with the Yankees. He also played for the Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres. Over his six-year career, he produced a .258 batting average while hitting 31 home runs and driving in 130 runs. 

During his time with the Yankees, he helped lead them to the AL East title. With the Phillies, he guided the team to the National League Title and World Series appearances in 1983. 

After his playing career, Lefebvre spent over 10 years as the senior advisor for scouting for the San Francisco Giants.

Mathews was a three-sport athlete during her time at EC. She played women's basketball and volleyball from 1983-87 and slow-pitch softball in 1984, garnering Sunshine State Conference accolades in both basketball and volleyball. 

In volleyball, she was named to the All-SSC First Team in 1985 and 1986. In basketball, she was a three-time all-conference selection, receiving second-team honors in 1984-85, honorable mention in 1985-86, and finally first-team recognition her senior year in 1986-87. 

Over her four years, Mathews scored 929 points while grabbing 528 rebounds. She ranks in the top-10 in three categories in program history, fourth in points per game (15.7), sixth in field goal percentage (.502), sixth in blocks (99).

She holds the single-season program record for field goals made in 1986-87 with 218. She also ranks fourth in single-season points (494), fourth in points per game (18.3), and fifth in rebounds (256). 

After her time at Eckerd, she played one season of professional basketball in France and played handball at the Olympic Festival in 1987.

Mathews then served as an area manager of a security company for major sporting events, like the Super Bowl, before becoming a freelance artist.

The three will be inducted during the annual ECSPYs on Monday, May 2.
