JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Eckerd beach volleyball team wrapped up play at the UNF Invitational on Sunday, dropping a pair of tight contents to North Alabama and the College of Charleston (SC), both by scores of 3-2.
Facing North Alabama (5-6) for the second time in as many days, the Tritons narrowly fell to the Lions in the opener.
The tandem of Izabela Gorys and Sam Crankshaw gave Eckerd an early 1-0 lead with a straight-sets (21-17, 21-10) victory in the No. 5 draw.
In the No. 1 slot, Joelle Coulter and Kitana Lim bounced back from an opening set loss (21-18) to take the following two sets 22-20 and 15-11.
Manaia Rewi and Martina Melicherova in the No. 4 draw nearly gave EC the victory. After falling behind in the opening set, the duo took the second set but dropped a close third set. The Lions won draws No. 2 and 3 to seal the win.
Eckerd (2-8) grabbed an early 2-0 lead in its match against Charleston (5-7) as the tandems of Crankshaw and Gorys in the No. 5 slot and Agata Sklepik and Dana Dull in the No. 4 slots both earned straight-set wins. However, the Cougars won the top three flights to edge out the victory.
With a pair of victories today, Gorys and Crankshaw move to 7-3 on the season.
The Tritons return to action on Saturday March 27 with a tri-match at Florida Southern starting at 10:00 AM.
