TRITONS THIS WEEK: What's Coming On April 2-8

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -  As the calendar flips to April, spring schedules for Triton athletics have begun to slow down with many teams nearing the end of their respective seasons. Men's golf, tennis, softball, and beach volleyball will all be in action on the road while baseball and sailing will compete at home.
 
MEN'S GOLF
Monday/Tuesday: Battle an the Shores | Normandy Shores CC | Miami Beach, Fla. | Live Scoring
  • Eckerd returns to the course after two weeks off traveling to Miami Beach on Monday and Tuesday for the Battle on the Shores Invitational. Last time out, Eckerd placed ninth at the Bank of TR Invitational.

  • Eckerd returns to action as the women travel to 16th-ranked Rollins on Wednesday for conference action before both the men and women travel to Ave Maria on Saturday.

  • Eckerd (17-18, 8-10 SSC) looks to extend its five-game win streak as the Tritons travel to Lynn for a three-game SSC series on Friday and Saturday.
  • The Tritons were led at the plate last week by Nikole Van Gennep, Kayelee Newstrom, and Janna Gaburo. Newstrom went 5-for-7 with four runs scored in the series against Nova Southeastern. She currently has a six-game hitting streak, batting .643 during that stretch. Along with Chelsea Armstrong, Gaburo provided a walk-off hit over the weekend with Gaburo's being a homerun. Gaburo finished the series 4-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Van Gennep had five RBIs and two homeruns over the three-game series including a grand slam.
  • Van Gennep and Gaburo led the Tritons in the circle over the weekend as well. Gaburo threw 7.2 innings of relief work allowing just two hits and one run while earning her first two wins of the season. Van Gennep earned her 12 win of the season while raising her strikeout total to 77 on the season.
  • Lynn (18-18, 7-12 SSC) enters the week off a series loss to Saint Leo and will play Flagler before hosting the Tritons. Three Fighting Knights are hitting over .300: Francais Olexa (.365), Karolina Flores (.327), and Elizabeth Diaz (.319).  Flores leads the team with six homeruns and 22 RBIs. Olexa also leads the team in the circle with 62 strikeouts over 100 innings and a 4.34 ERA.

  • Eckerd (16-16, 8-10 SSC) looks to carry the momentum of a 3-1 record last week hosting Flagler for three game series on Friday and Saturday.
  • The Tritons are led by five players hitting over .300 – Shane LeMaster (.351), Garrett Hiott (.336), Mitch Calandra (.315), Keith Leavitt, Jr. (.315), and Chase Achuff (.308). Acuff is currently riding a 12-game hitting streak. Eckerd had homeruns from Hiott, Leavitt Jr, Bryan Torres, and Justin Glover over the weekend while LeMaster led Eckerd during the week going 6-for-15 over the four games.
  • Dillon McCollough (4.14 ERA), Nick Alonzo (5.64), and Robin Allen (5.49) form the weekend rotation with McCollough leading the team with 68 strikeouts. Joey Favetta and Jack Iervolino lead the bullpen with Favetta picking up the save in his last four outings while Iervolino earning a win and a save last week.
  • Flagler (25-10) enters the week off a series loss to No. 11 Columbus State (Ga.) and will play Valdosta State (Ga.) before heading to St. Petersburg. The Saints have six players hitting over .300 while Jason Moore leads the run production with 10 doubles, six homeruns, and 46 RBIs.  Robert Girgis leads the team with 53 strikeouts over 49.1 innings while Ethan Jones has five saves and a 0.96 ERA over 37 innings.
BEACH VOLLEYBALL
Saturday/Sunday: TBD | Small College Championships | Tavares, Fla.
  • Eckerd (13-5) wraps up the season at the Small College Championships in Tavares, Fla.. The Tritons will be the No. 1 seed in the tournament play with the bracket to be announced on Tuesday.  Eckerd looks to the tandem of Kaitlyn Sibson and Paula Hoffmann as they carry a 17-match win streak.
SAILING
Saturday/Sunday: SAISA Coed and Team Championships | Doyle Sailing Center
  • Eckerd will host the SAISA Coed and Team Championships this weekend at the Doyle Sailing Center.
