SAINT LEO, Fla. - The Eckerd beach volleyball team rolled to a 4-1 win over Saint Leo on Friday in its opening game of the Saint Leo Invitational.
The Tritons (9-4) spoiled the first home match in the history of SLU's beach program, clinching the match with
Mackenzie Redner and
Savanna Cary's win in the No. 2 draw.
Partnering together for the first time this season,
Arielle Erillo and
Fernanda Reis scored EC's first win in the No. 4 draw defeating Britt Sederholm and Paloma Da Silva in a tight first set, 24-22, before cruising to a 21-12 victory in the second.
The No. 1 duo of
Paula Hoffmann and
Kaitlyn Sibson won their 12th straight match after easily dispatching Jenya Krulova and Anna Garrett, 21-17 and 21-15. Â Redner and Cary then followed with a pair of 21-19 wins to score EC's third point.
Kali Boatwright and
Stephanie Bogda came back after losing their first set at the No. 5 draw to win the next two from Allie Daul and Annabella Arcari including a narrow 17-15 victory in the third set.
The Tritons have a busy day on Saturday with three matches at the tournament beginning with No. 13 Florida International at 9:40 AM.
