TAMPA, Fla. – The Eckerd beach volleyball team won a pair of contests at a tri-match in Tampa, defeating Stevenson (Md.) in the opening match 3-2 before dispatching Tampa in the finale by the same score.
Eckerd (7-4) took wins in the No. 1 and No. 5 draws in both matches while winning in the No. 4 draw against Stevenson and the No. 3 slot against Tampa.
The Tritons opened up with a win in the No. 4 and 5 draws against Stevenson with the duo of
Stephanie Bogda and
Kali Boatwright winning by scores of 21-13 and 21-16 in the No. 4 slot while
Jordan Duffy and
Rachel Cornatzer dominated in the first set, 21-9, and took the second set, 21-18. The tandem of
Paula Hoffmann and
Kaitlyn Sibson earned the decisive point of the match in the No. 1 slot cruising to a 21-14, 21-13 win.
Cornatzer and Duffy came from behind to earn the first point for the Tritons in the No. 5 draw against Tampa, dropping the first set 21-15 before edging out Marisa Beisner and Nylah Demps 22-20 in the second set. The pair then took the decisive third set, 15-7. Sibson and Hoffmann took another straight-sets win in the No. 1 position, 21-18 and 21-17, and
Mackenzie Redner and
Savanna Cary breezed in the No. 3 draw 21-12, 21-16.
Sibson and Hoffmann have now won 10 matches in a row, only dropping two sets during the streak.
Eckerd faces a quick turnaround as the Tritons host Florida Gulf Coast tomorrow at 3:00 PM at the North Shore Courts in downtown St. Petersburg.
