Box Score 2 DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Eckerd softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader on Friday at Embry-Riddle to open its final series of the year.
The Eagles (24-22) scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth in game one for a 7-3 win, then rode a four-hitter from Kassidy Simons to finish the doubleheader sweep with a 6-0 victory.
Eckerd scored first in the opener when
Nikole Van Gennep came home following an error by the Eagle third baseman. Â ERAU took the lead in the third with two runs coming after a pair of errors with two outs, then added another run in the fourth.
The Tritons tied the game in the top of the fifth after
Rachael Luckett and
Carrie Shere singled to lead off the inning and set the table for Van Gennep, who brought both home with a double to left field. Â
However, Ilona Andringa worked out of the inning with a pair of strikeouts and a pop-up, and Simons stranded two in relief after EC threatened in the top of the sixth.
ERAU then took control in the bottom of the frame scoring four runs with two outs on a pair of RBI singles and a two-run double.
Kiley King reached in the seventh with a two-out single but advanced no further as Simons picked up the win.
Simons stayed in the circle for game two and helped Embry-Riddle finish the twinbill sweep with a four-hitter.
The Eagles broke a scoreless tie with a run in the third that scored as the result of an error. Â ERAU plated two more runs in the fifth on a bases-loaded walk and a sacrifice fly and further padded its lead with three in the sixth.
Eckerd (19-32) twice moved runners to third base but could push neither across the plate.
Luckett, Shere and Van Gennep all had two hits in the first game while
Crystal Garcia had two of Eckerd's four hits in game two.
Van Gennep (14-18) took the loss in the opener while
Janna Gaburo (3-6) did the same in game two.
The Tritons wrap up the 2017 season Saturday with a single game at 10:00 AM.
