BASEBALL GAMEDAY: Tritons Host Florida Southern in Midweek Non-Conference Game

ST.PETERSBURG, Fla- The Eckerd baseball team will finish its 11-game home stand with a single non-conference game against Florida Southern at the Turley Athletic Complex tonight.

Eckerd comes off a strong week as they are riding a three-game win streak. Eckerd took down St. Thomas (Fla) on Wednesday and won two close contests Friday and Saturday. On Friday, the Tritons beat Cedarville (Ohio) University, 1-0, in a pitcher's duel. Dillion McCollough pitched a complete-game shutout giving up just one hit while striking out 11. On Saturday, the Tritons recorded a walk-off win over Rockhurst (Mo.) University in an extra-innings thriller. Eckerd had the bases loaded with one out in the 10th inning when pinch hitter Terence Hebda came to the plate and drew a bases-loaded walk to win the game for Eckerd.

LEADING THE WAY
- Freshman Sam Cochrane leads the Tritons with a .423 batting average and a .592 slugging percentage. The right fielder smacked a double down the left field line in Saturday's win to extend his hitting streak to 17 games. Cochrane is tied for first in the conference in doubles (8), tied for second in triples (3), and is within the top ten in the conference in hits (30) and batting average.
- Nick Conti (.394), Mitch Calandra (.339), and Tom Buonopane (.328) are also swinging hot bats. The trio also has streaks alive as Conti (17), Calandra (13), and Buonopane (11) are continuing to reach base safely.  Conti went 5-for-13 over the past week with two doubles. Calandra had two hits in each of this weekend's games. Buonopane went 4-for-12 in the last three games with a RBI double Wednesday.

ON THE MOUND
- The pitching staff had a strong week as they struck out 39 batters over four games. Friday night, McCollough pitched a one-hit gem as he punched out 11 batters. Saturday night, Alex Moore went seven shutout innings striking out nine. Jack Mahan repeated his performance from Wednesday on Saturday as he provided two shutout innings earning the win.

ABOUT FLORIDA SOUTHERN
- Florida Southern comes into the series 10-6 overall and 0-3 in the conference. The Mocs won two games over the weekend racking up 18 runs over West Virginia Wesleyan. Lynn swept the Mocs a week ago in their first conference matchup of the season.
- Cody Burgess and Omar Villaman lead the Mocs hitting .418 and .417 respectively. Florida Southern has hit 23 home runs as a team with Burgess accounting for five. Villaman has smacked three doubles, one triple, and one home run. Three other Mocs are hitting over .300 as well - Jason Sierra (.327), Austin Mauer (.327), and Logan Browning (.302).
- Jake Walsh has been dominating on the mound for the Mocs, leading the tea, with a 1.47 ERA. Walsh has struck out 30 over 30.1 innings while limiting batters to a .191 batting average.

LAST TIME THEY MET
- The Mocs swept the Tritons last year in three conference games and one non-conference contest.
