Triton Beach Volleyball Opens Season With Two Wins

BABSON PARK, Fla. - The Eckerd beach volleyball team opened the 2017 season with a pair of wins, taking both ends of a tri-match at Webber International (Fla.) University on Saturday.

Eckerd scored a 3-2 win over Webber in the first contest, then defeated Warner (Fla.), 4-1, to close the day.

Two of the Tritons' three wins against WIU went to the third set.  Kaitlyn Sibson and Madison Whiting outlasted Michelle Calderon and Hannah Tannone, winning the decisive third set 19-17.  Sibson and Whiting took the first, 21-19, but Calderon and Tannone bounced back to win the second set, 21-18.

Arielle Erillo and Mackenzie Redner also won a three-set thriller in the No. 3 position, rallying after losing the first set, 22-20, to take the next two by scores of 21-18 and 15-11.

Katie Arnette and Keri McMahon won in straight sets in the No. 5 spot over Katie Schueman and Kaxandra Naranjo, 21-13 and 21-14.

Sibson and Whiting completed another three-set win against Warner fighting back after dropping the first set, 21-18, to take comfortable victories in the second (21-15) and third (15-10) sets.

Erillo and Redner breezed to a straight sets win in the No. 3 spot, 21-11 and 21-12, as did Arnette and McMahon in the No. 5 position, 21-11 and 21-13.

Abbie O'Ferrell and Savanna Cary also posted a dominant win over Raygen Lee and Vanessa Boitnott, 21-12 and 21-13.

The Tritons (2-0) head to the Gulf Coast Spring Hill Invitational next weekend.
