Box Score 2 FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - A pair of walkoff singles by Nova Southeastern's Lexie Storrer spoiled the day for the Eckerd softball team as the Sharks completed a weekend sweep with wins of 3-2 and 2-1 in eight innings on Saturday afternoon.
The Tritons (13-22, 2-10 SSC) took early leads in both games only to see the Sharks rally both times.
In the opener of today's doubleheader, Eckerd carried a 2-0 lead into the seventh inning behind a stellar performance from
Grace Willeck in the circle. NSU, however, broke up her shutout bid with three straight one-out hits to tie the game.
Willeck got the second out of the inning with a grounder to second, but Dana Edmundson - who doubled in the tying runs - advanced to third on the play. Lexie Storrer then came through with the game-winning hit, a single to center that brought in Edmundson.
Eckerd scored runs in the third and sixth innings on a pair of fielder's choices as
Chelsea Armstrong and
Kaleigh Floyd delivered RBIs.
Willeck (2-5), meanwhile, kept the Sharks scoreless for the first six innings, striking out five and stranding five before the final inning.
Kiley King led EC at the plate in the first game with a 2-for-3 performance.
In the series finale, Eckerd again took an early lead on a single by Armstrong in the top of the first inning to score
Rachael Luckett from second. NSU (19-17, 7-5 SSC) answered with an RBI triple by Megan Granitto in the bottom of the inning, and the score remained 1-1 until the eighth inning.
Janna Gaburo (3-3) worked out of several jams in the game before finally giving up the winning run. The junior stranded 13 runners, including leaving the bases loaded in both the fourth and fifth innings. However, the Sharks finally broke through in the eighth after a single and two walks loaded the bases, setting the stage for Storrer's second game-winning hit of the day.
The Tritons also had opportunities against Storrer (13-7) in the circle, but left nine runners on base.
Crystal Garcia had three hits in the back end of the twinbill while Armstrong had two.
Eckerd returns to action on Tuesday, traveling to face No. 5 Valdosta State (Ga.) for a doubleheader beginning at 4:00 PM.
