ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team picked up a hard-fought win over Post (Conn.) University on Friday at the Bullard Courts, earning wins in three singles matches to secure a 5-4 victory.
"The guys had a really solid win today," said EC head coach
Ben Maxwell. "This was a much different Post team from last year and the guys stepped up to win some key matches. Â I'm proud to see the men fighting hard."
Eckerd (5-4) won two of three doubles matches to build an early lead. Â The No. 2 team of
Matt Spasic and
Will Stone improved to 8-1 on the season, taking an 8-4 win over Ludvig Henrikson and Peter Rossel. Â
Eddie Lewis and
Bruno Alves also teamed for an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles to give the Tritons the advantage heading into singles play.
Spasic and Stone also won their singles matches in straight sets. Â Spasic outlasted Henrikson at No. 3 singles, 6-4 and 6-2, while Stone cruised past Rossel in the No. 4 spot, 6-3 and 6-0.
Alasdair Knox's win at No. 6 singles helped seal victory as he handled Joe Alvord, 6-1 and 6-1.
The Tritons return to the Bullard Courts on Saturday to host Ave Maria (Fla.) at 11:00 AM.
