LAST TIME OUT: Eckerd won its season-opener on Friday via a 4-0 shutout of Chadron State (Neb.) at the EC Spring Invitational, but lost its next three over the weekend including a 10-0 loss to No. 17 Saint Leo. Â
Nikole Van Gennep worked in the circle in the Tritons' first three games while
Grace Willeck and
Janna Gaburo split time in the final game of the weekend.
PLATE PATIENCE: The Tritons have shown the ability to work counts in the early season. Â EC drew a total of 17 walks in four games last weekend including four by
Carrie Shere. Â Eight of those free passes came against Florida Southern on Saturday.
STAY SAFE: Junior
Chelsea Armstrong has reached base safely in each of her first four games. Â She is the only Triton to reach safely in every game thus far. Â Van Gennep enters today having reached safely in her last three.
LAST TIME THEY MET: The Tritons split a double-header with Southeastern on the road on March 30, 2016, winning the first game, 2-0, before falling 11-3 in the finale. Â Van Gennep tossed a one-hitter in the opener and earned the win when EC scored twice in the top of the seventh.
