ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The final home match of the season for the Eckerd men's tennis team was a challenging task as the Tritons were visited by the ITA No. 30 Rollins Tars for a Sunshine State Conference dual match.
The Tritons (12-8, 0-5 SSC) were swept by the Tars (7-12, 1-3 SSC) despite tight competition throughout the lineup.
Doubles opened with EC dropping the first two doubles positions 8-3 and 8-5, but the tandem of
Frazier Springfield and
Eddie Lewis looked to take the third slot. Patrick Sell and Ziad Melhauoui managed to break the Triton duo's serve just once in the contest, but that was all that was needed as the Rollins pair took the decision, 8-6.
In singles play,
Yosua Husodo was edged out by Adrian Difelice at No. 3 singles, 7-5, 6-4. Springfield also battled at fifth singles but ultimately fell 6-3, 6-3.
Only one regular season contest remains before the SSC Championship in Tampa as the Tritons travel to Lakeland as they seek to defeat the No. 43 Florida Southern Moccasins in conference play. That match is scheduled for a 10:00 AM start on Saturday.
