ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The defending national champion Barry Buccaneers visited the Bullard Courts for a Sunshine State Conference contest against the Eckerd Tritons.
EC (12-8, 0-4 SSC) was unable to conquer the ITA No. 7 Bucs (12-5, 4-1 SSC) in what is always a challenging contest for the Tritons and fell by a score of 8-1.
After sitting out the majority of the season due to an injury,
Connor Masella competed in his first singles match of the season. His singles debut was successful as he recorded a 6-4, 6-3 victory at the No. 6 position.
"I'm very proud of Connor on his win today," said head coach
Ben Maxwell. "Coming out for his first and only match of the season due to injury and playing the way he did today speaks volumes on how hard he has worked to come back."
The next contest for the Tritons will be their final home match of the season as the No. 30 Rollins Tars travel to St. Petersburg. The contest is scheduled for a 3:00 PM start on Tuesday from the Bullard Courts.
