SOFTBALL GAMEDAY: Eckerd Hosts Merrimack, Looks to Extend Win Streak

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd softball team will look to extend its winning streak to eight in a row on Tuesday afternoon when the Tritons host Merrimack (Mass.) University for a double-header beginning at 4:00 PM.

GAMES 31-32: Merrimack (5-12) vs. Eckerd (18-11-1)
COVERAGE: Stats | Watch

WILLECK WINS: On Sunday, Grace Willeck earned her first win in college after tossing 6-2/3 scoreless innings in a 6-0 victory over Nova Southeastern.  Willeck held the Sharks to four hits while striking out five in the combined shutout with Nikole Van Gennep.  Van Gennep helped get out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the third when the game resumed on Sunday after rain caused a delay on Saturday.

GOING DEEP: Carrie Shere and Kaycie Duncan both left the yard in the final game of the Nova Southeastern series.  Shere hit her team-leading fifth home run of the season in the first inning while Duncan connected on her first home run of the year in the bottom of the fourth.  It marked the second time this season where Eckerd had multiple home runs in a game.  The other came in EC's home opener on February 10 against Colorado Christian when Shere and Janna Gaburo each went deep.

ON A ROLL: After enduring a six-game losing streak, the Tritons have turned things around by rolling off six straight wins.  A large part of the success during the streak has been due to pitching and defense; Eckerd had posted four shutouts in the six victories.

CLUTCH PERFORMANCE: When the Tritons need a hit in the clutch, Kaycie Duncan has been able to deliver.  The senior is hitting .400 with runners in scoring position and .353 with two outs.  She is also a staggering 9-for-11 with runners at third and less than two outs.

ROAD TRIPPIN': Merrimack has been busy during its trip to Florida.  Today's double-header with Eckerd will mark the end of a nine-game schedule in under a week.  The Warriors played five games in Clermont at The Spring Games and dropped both ends of a double-header last night to Rollins.
